The South Carolina Senior Open, one of the top events on the Sunbelt Senior Tour, boasts five days worth of activities beginning TODAY (Sept. 5). The event is being held at Tidewater Golf Club and Plantation in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
The SC Senior Open events include a Golf Fest that was open today and a 9 a.m. Pro-Am on Monday that is still accepting entries.
Female touring professionals Lauren Hunt and Katie Allison will be among the pros giving a free public golf clinic at the Golf Fest at the Tidewater driving range. Others conducting clinics include Glen Davis, Bob Lumpkin and Frank Valzano.
Golf Fest also included a long drive demonstration, music, entertainment, skills contests, refreshments, a silent auction, Miss Myrtle Beach 2009 and a drawing every half hour for lunch for two at the Tidewater Grille.
A 2009 Volvo C30 is a pro-am hole-in-one prize on the 12th hole, and every closest-to-the-hole winner on par-3s received a $300 gift card. A new TaylorMade R-9 driver will be given away, and there will be a raffle drawing for $10,000 at the pro-am awards luncheon. Call Tidewater tournament director Bill Pearson at 843-283-3752 to enter the pro-am.
The tournament has raised more than $100,000 in the past five years for local charities and community projects, and this year benefits the North Strand Helping Hand and the Autism Advocate Foundation.
Volunteers are being sought for the Oct. 19 to 25 Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island, a subset of Charleston, SC. Volunteer coordinator Alexa Devine Harnig said the event is about 200 volunteers shy of the 650 goal.
The top 60 money winners will compete for 25 spots on the 2010 PGA Tour in the Nationwide Tour’s season-ending event.
Over 650 volunteers are needed to staff the event, which will be televised live on Golf Channel. Volunteers ages 12 and up can serve in a wide range of areas, and there are many positions available for those who may not have golf knowledge but want to participate.
Visit Nationwide Tour’s site, and look under the “Tickets and Local Event Details” tab, call 843-881-2532 or e-mail Harnig at smudevine@aol.com for more information.
Tickets are available through the tournament’s Tickets Fore Charity program. All ticket proceeds benefit local charities, and a list of participating charitable organizations is available to choose from while making a purchase under the “Tickets and Local Event Details” tab at the tournament Web site.
