The first annual AVP Charleston Open Tournament (professional beach volleyball) will be coming to Daniel Island (South Carolina) Family Circle Tennis Center. But how are they going to host a beach volleyball tournament on clay surface tennis courts? Since May 21, 4 dump trucks have brought sand from Ridgeville, South Carolina to the Tennis Center. Approx. 2.94 million pounds in total will be dumped in order to create volleyball courts. The sand will be placed on top of 250 plywood sheets which reside on top of a plastic barrier.
This event wont only feature volleyball but there are an array of other activities including: Sinjin Smith, a volleyball legend, plans on holding youth clinics; Paul Mitchell, famous hair stylist will help you select the perfect summer hairdo; and XBox 360 Oasis area for children.
AVP players, volleyball fans and you are all invited to the official AVP After Party on Friday, June 15 at Lana’s Mexican Restaurant on Daniel Island. Meet U.S. Olympic gold medallists Karch Kiraly, Misty May-Treanor, and Kerri Walsh.
